Webinar Takeaways

Why The Fashion Pact is so necessary and which is its state of art? As The ID Factory, we’re able to participate in an inspirational webinar organized by Regenerative Society Foundation.

Here you are what the key insights we brought at home.

The Fashion Pact, Circularity & Regeneration

Andrea Rosso, Creative Director and Sustainability ambassador at Diesel, and Sara Mariani, Chief Sustainability Officer at OTB,  together with Veronica Tonini, Chief Strategy Officer & Sustainability Coordinator at Salvatore Ferragamo have shared meaningful examples of how fashion brands can take a step forward on the journey towards becoming sustainable and regenerative businesses during the Regenerative Society Foundation webinar that was held on Wednesday 17th in live streaming.

OTB Group and Salvatore Ferragamo have both signed The Fashion Pact global coalition of companies in the fashion and textile industry that now represents over a third of the apparel and footwear industry.

What is The Fashion Pact?

Members of The Fashion Pact coalition have committed their efforts to three key environmental goals: stopping global warming, restoring biodiversity and protecting the oceans.

CLIMATE

Signatories have committed to the implementation of Science Based Targets (SBTs) for Climate to achieve net-zero carbon impact by 2050.

BIODIVERSITY

The Fashion Pact’s members worked jointly with experts to map their supply chain for biodiversity, creating Science Based Targets for Nature, and developing biodiversity strategies, committing to:

• individual biodiversity blueprints by the end of 2020;
• supporting zero deforestation and sustainable forest management by 2025.

OCEANS

Signatories commit to eliminating problematic and unnecessary plastic in packaging (including polybags, hangers, consumer packaging, and retail bags):

• achieving the elimination of problematic and unnecessary packaging in B2C packaging by 2025 and in B2B by 2030;
• ensuring that at least half of other plastic packaging in B2C is 100% recycled content by 2025, and by 2030 for B2B.

THE WEBINAR

All three experts in sustainability, Andrea Rosso, Sara Mariani and Veronica Tonini, were asked to share their company’s perspective about sustainability and how they are taking action towards the achievement of The Fashion Pact’s objectives.

Andrea Rosso – Diesel

Andrea Rosso, Creative Director and Sustainability ambassador, stressed that transparency is the key for communicating to their customers the company’s commitment towards responsible business practices.

Andrea Rosso is the upcycling artistic director of Diesel project upcycling for 55DSL, where company’s leftovers were used to create the first circular fashion‘s collection of the brand.

Upcycling aside from minimizing the volume of discarded materials and waste, it also reduces air pollution, water pollution, and greenhouse gas emissions due to production processes.

Sara Mariani – OTB

Sara Mariani, Chief sustainability officer, shared OTB Group’s commitment for sustainable packaging, in fact the group has changed the entire product packaging line in order to minimize their environmental impact.

They worked to improve the material of the packaging and to reduce its volume, as part of the Fashion Pact’s commitment in the Ocean pillar, which in turn are also translated into water and CO2 savings, having a positive impact on biodiversity and climate.

Veronica Tonini- Salvatore Ferragamo

Veronica Tonini, Chief Strategy Officer & Sustainability Coordinator, strongly agrees on the importance of sustainable packaging solutions as part of Salvatore Ferragamo’s commitment to Responsible Passion. The packaging is FSC certified, fully recyclable, biodegradable, and up to 40% post-consumer.

“We committed to eliminate all single-use plastic, and if not possible we will use 100% recycled plastic.”

In 2020, the fashion brand committed to eliminate all single-use plastic, with the objective to progressively replace them with bioplastic, recycled and recyclable plastic.
