The Fashion Brand Accountability

When we talk with fashion brand about fashion supply chain’s traceability, we need to focus on a concept that goes beyond customers trust.

We talk about Accountability!

Where are materials and products made?

Who produces them, and how?

What a fashion brand must know?

Fashion brands and Traceability

Supply chain traceability is essential for understanding accountability, getting the transparent data necessary for the provenance of products and materials, and sharing it with your customers.

As we know, laws are making traceability and risk monitoring a mandatory requirement, such as the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act and the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act.

UNECE, for example, launched “The Sustainability Pledge” inviting companies to undertake to follow and apply specific guidelines relating to the traceability and transparency of the textile supply chain.

From the other side the research conducted by Fashion Revolution revealed a strong demand from consumers to fashion brands and governments for a greater guarantee of transparency and respect for human and environmental rights along the supply chain:

69% of consumers would like to know how their clothing is made.

How to face this effectively?

Supply chain mapping

First of all, we need to map our entire supply chain: raw materials, vendors, factories, etc. All of them have to be connected to an all-in-one digital platform.

In this way, it will be easier to trace the origin of different raw materials and product manufacturing processes.

6 main pillars

The second step concerns knowing your “teammates”.

The sustainability analysis of the supply chain, with a sustainability score based on 6 main pillars, such as:

Traceability
• Chemical Management
• Planet
• Materials
• People
• Cycle of each supplier.

This information will lead you to implement corrective action plans to restore the supply chain.

Third step: share your effort!

The digital product passport will be your tool for sharing the story behind your product, thanks to the traceability of all the information from the previous steps.

To give you an example of how traceability works, here you will find an example concerning leather.

What’s next?

We know traceability alone is not enough to make a brand more sustainable and transparent. But it is the first step!

Gaining the transparency of what happens in your supply chain with real-time data helps you to make objective decisions to improve your brand.
